LITTLE COMFORTS
is a hand cut, illustrated poster series of comfort foods I’ve attempted making from scratch.
Project GoalS
I wanted to challenge myself with a larger scale, planned out versions of abstract illustrations I’ve worked on. I set parameters and a subject for myself, keeping consistent style and structure of each piece.
Abstraction and Detail
Set out to explore how to abstract each dish, while staying true to the feeling of each, and maintaining recognizability. Additionally, finding ways to integrate pattern and fine detail to generate visual interest
Scale and Form
Furthering the abstraction by scaling the food up to an unnatural scale. Further, breaking the usual rectangular form of the poster to allow for a more organic existence in their environment, and provide a more tactile, intricate feel.
Have Fun
A personal opportunity for myself to break out of some of my more typical projects and explore a method that I enjoy working on in my free time on a larger scale. This project was created 100% by hand, using micron pen. The fairly meditative process, centered around a hobby, was a positive way to break myself free of screens.
